Beschreibung

Even the color of “The Yellow Book” was an appropriate reflection of the 'Yellow Nineties,' a decade in which proper Victorianism was giving way among the fashionable to bolder Regency attitudes and French influences. Yellow was the popular decor of the notorious and dandified pre-Victorian Regency, and thus it was often associated with decadence. The first volume, published by the Bodley Head on 16 April, 1894, was highly anticipated, and went through several printings to satisfy public demand. This handsome volume includes his cover illustrations, his literary contributions to "The Savoy," his "Table Talk," essays, and two letters written to the press in reply to criticism.
